Psalm 47
David invites us to shout with loud songs of joy because the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared. How can this fear be a reason for joy?
Zechariah 14.1-21
For younger children read at least Zechariah 14.9 and repeat it so that it might be written on the heart. You might also remind them that Jesus is our loving King and his name means Savior.
For older children you could read and discuss this summary of the chapter – “Zechariah’s description of Jerusalem’s future anticipates John’s vision: “I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband (Rv 21.2). Both foresee a day when the Lord will use His mighty power to crush all His enemies and make all things new and holy. Those wearing white robes, whose sins have been washed away in the blood of th Lamb, will reside in that Holy City (Rv 7.13,14). They will ‘serve Him day and night in His temple” (Rv 7.15).” The Lutheran Study Bible
Titus 2.7-3.15
For younger children read at least Titus 3.47 (It is a longer section but a blessed one to build up in a child her baptismal identity) and repeat it so that it might be written on the heart. You might also remind your children of the day of their baptisms and talk about how to celebrate that day.
For older children you could focus on Titus 3.4-7. Ask, What do you see each person of the Trinity doing for us in these words
Write it on the heart verses – Zechariah 14.9 and Titus 3.4-7
Small Catechism for the week: Table of Duties – To Widows – The widow who is really in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day to pray and to ask God for help. But the widow who lives for pleasure is dead even while she lives. – 1 Timothy 5.5-6
Small Catechism question for the day: What is Paul’s secret to contentment? Philippians 4.11-13 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
