Psalm 33.18-22

Where do we find God’s steadfast love? In Christ at the cross!

Zechariah 9.1-17

For younger children read at least Zechariah 9.9 and repeat it so that it might be written on the heart. You might also ask “When did a king ride on a donkey?” Jesus did on Palm Sunday just before he died on the cross on Good Friday. “Why does that make us rejoice?” Because he came to bring forgiveness life and salvation.

For older children you could read this quote about Zechariah 9.17 – “The people of the Gospel will be robust, energetic, and cheerful, both in spirit and in faith. After all, in Christ there is no old age but an everlasting bloom of youth” Martin Luther

2 Timothy 2.1-26

For younger children read at least 2 Timothy 2.22 and repeat it so that it might be written on the heart. You might also ask “What would it look like if I threw a temper tantrum like a 2-year-old?” Pretty silly. As we grow, we leave things behind. God wants us to pursue, to chase, to search for, things like righteousness, faith, love, and peace. “How can you chase peace today?”

For older children you could focus on 2 Timothy 2.1-7. “At the end Paul wrote ‘Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.’ What understanding does the Lord want us to have from these three illustrations of a good soldier, an athlete, and a hard-working farmer (vv 4-6)?”

Write it on the heart verses – Zechariah 9.9 and 2 Timothy 2.22

Small Catechism for the week: Table of Duties – What hearers owe their pastors – Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over yours souls as men who will give an account. Obey them, so that they may do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no benefit to you. Hebrews 13.17

Small Catechism question for the day: How should we treat our pastors and why? Hebrews 13.17 (above)
