Psalm 116

How can we thank God for all he has done? When grandma has prepared a meal you thank her by asking for seconds. What shall I render to the LORD for all his benefits to me? I will take more! I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD.

Job 34.10-33

For younger children read at least Psalm 116.15 and repeat it so that it might be written on the heart. You might also talk about death in the context of Jesus’ victory. Easter is coming!

For older children you could discuss this prayer – “Gracious Lord, forgive our rebelliousness and impatience, and strengthen our faith that we may truly accept Your will for our lives. Amen.” The Lutheran Study Bible

John 11.17-37

For younger children read at least John 11.25 and repeat it so that it might be written on the heart. You might also talk about how much Jesus loved Lazarus and showed it by his tears.

For older children you could discuss this – “When Jesus comes to Mary and Martha’s house and sees great mourning, He is moved to tears over the situation and because of love for His friends. For all people, death and the grace bring loss and the pain of separation. But for Christians, death is only a temporary interruption of the fellowship they share with others in Christ Jesus, who will raise believers up on the Last Day to everlasting life.” The Lutheran Study Bible

Write it on the heart verses – Psalm 116.15 and John 11.25

Small Catechism for the week: The Address – Our Father who are in heaven. What does this mean? With these words God tenderly invites us to believe that he is our true Father and that we are his true children, so that we may pray to him as boldly and confidently as dear children as their dear father.

Small Catechism question for the day: What is prayer? Acts 7.59-60 And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.’ And falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
