Psalm 107.23-32
“Then they were glad when the waters were quiet and he brought them to their desired haven.” Jesus can bring about the gladness of a quiet life even here in the valley of the shadow of death since he gives us the hope of reaching the desired haven of heaven.
Genesis 11.27-12.20
For younger children read at least Genesis 12.2 and repeat it so that it might be written on the heart. You may also talk about how we are part of Abram’s family through faith in Jesus.
For older children you could discuss this prayer – “[God] is faithful to do as He has said. He made Abram into a great nation, blessing all the world through the Son. As Abram’s offspring by faith, we have the blessing of God’s forgiveness and life without end.” The Lutheran Study Bible
Mark 4.21-41
For younger children read at least Mark 4.39 and repeat it so that it might be written on the heart. You might also talk about the calm we can have because Jesus is in control of all storms (real and figurative).
For older children you could discuss this – “Jesus continues the theme of producing for the Kingdom by comparing His people to lamps set on a stand and by promising that faithfulness will be rewarded. It is a great pity, therefore, that so many Christians thwart God’s desire to bless faithfulness by failing to put their faith into practice wholeheartedly. The Lord forgives those who repent, and He calls us to focus on His mission. Through we are generous, He is more generous still and blesses more and more.” The Lutheran Study Bible
Write it on the heart verses – Genesis 12.2 and Mark 4.39
Small Catechism for the week: The Sixth Petition Lead us not into temptation. What does this mean? God surely tempts no one to sin, but we pray in this petition that God would guard and keep us, so that the devil, the world, and our flesh may not deceive us or lead us into false belief, despair, and other great and shameful sins; and though we are tempted by them, we pray that we may overcome and win the victory.
Small Catechism question for the day: How would you answer Paul’s question in Galatians 5.7? You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?
