Psalm 30.1-5,8-12

“You have turned for me my mourning into dancing.” What a beautiful picture!

Job 19.1-12,21-27

For younger children read at least Job 19.25 or 19.23-27 and repeat it so that it might be written on the heart. You might also sing the hymn “I Know that My Redeemer Lives”.

For older children you could discuss this note – “When Job’s physical condition grows closer to death and he considers a permanent memorial to record his innocence, his spirit soars to his only hope: the Redeemer, God Himself. The divine Redeemer will stand on the earth on the last day. Job will receive his vindication in his resurrected body, from which he will see the Redeemer wit hi own eyes.” The Lutheran Study Bible

John 8.1-20

For younger children read at least John 8.7 and repeat it so that it might be written on the heart. You might also talk about how this can help us be more patient and forgiving.

For older children you could discuss this – “Jesus reveals the hypocrisy of His detractors and calls them to self-examination, even as He calls the sinful woman to consider her error. The Lord’s greatest desire is to deliver us from sin through repentance and faith, rather than condemn us for our sins. Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners, even the worst of us, by His sacrifice on the cross.” The Lutheran Study Bible

Write it on the heart verses – Job 19.23-27 and John 8.7

Small Catechism for the week: The Third Petition Thy will be done on earth as in heaven. What does this mean? God’s good and gracious will certainly is done without our prayer, but we pray in this petition that it may be done among us also. How is God’s will done? God’s will is done when he breaks and defeats every evil plan and purpose of the devil, the world, and our sinful flesh, which try to prevent us from keeping God’s name holy and letting his kingdom come. And God’s will is done when he strengthens and keeps us firm in his Word and in the faith as long as we live. This is his good and gracious will.

Small Catechism question for the day: What is the good and gracious will of God? 1 Timothy 2.4 This is good and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
