Psalm 57.1-5,8-10

God’s steadfast love is different than our fickle love. One day we love our favorite teams coach, the next we call for his job. God’s steadfast love remains constant for us in Christ.

Job 11.1-20

For younger children read at least Psalm 57.10 and repeat it so that it might be written on the heart. You might also go outside and try to see how high you can reach into the sky. “Can you reach the clouds? God’s steadfast love reaches that high and beyond!”

For older children you could discuss this note – “Of the three friends, Zophar is the most vehement in his denunciation of Job. He does not appeal to visions (Eliphaz) or tradition (Bildad). He simply knows Job is a terrible sinner, for how else can Job’s extreme sufferings be explained? This is the natural religion of humans in its clearest form: there is no Gospel, only Law. As Zophar focuses on condemning the sinner, he has no room for sympathy or even tact.” The Lutheran Study Bible

John 5.19-29

For younger children read at least John 5.25 and repeat it so that it might be written on the heart. You might also take a trip to a cemetery, especially if you can visit the grave of someone your child knew. Talk about Jesus’ victory over death!

For older children you could discuss this note – “Equal to the Father in deity and honor, God’s Son makes people spiritually alive through His Word and raises believers from the grace at the hour of His coming to judge. Those who refuse to believe in God’s Son will come under judgment, and their evil deeds will become known. Christ has the authority to give you life now and on the day of your resurrection to everlasting life.” The Lutheran Study Bible

Write it on the heart verses – Psalm 57.10 and John 5.25

Small Catechism for the week: Second Article (Part 1) – I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is my Lord.

Small Catechism question for the day: Why did Peter, James, John, and Jesus not stay on the Mount of Transfiguration? Where did Jesus have to go? Read Matthew 17.1-9 and remember that Jesus had to go up Mount Calvary to suffer on the cross.
