Psalm 84.1-4,8-12
‘Blessed are those who dwell in your house.’ It is good to love the house of the Lord. But, what is his house? We can talk about his house both as the church building and as the people who believe in Jesus.
Job 16.1-22
For younger children read at least Psalm 84.1 and repeat it so that it might be written on the heart. You might also talk about your favorite things about your church (both the building and the people).
For older children you could discuss this note – “Job’s misery only increased through the aggravating words of his friends. Everyone has abandoned him. Even God treated Job as His enemy. But Job confesses that God will nevertheless be his witness and intermediary at the coming judgment.” The Lutheran Study Bible
John 7.1-13
For younger children read at least John 7.7 and repeat it so that it might be written on the heart. You might also talk about this fine line of both loving the world and speaking against the evil of the world.
For older children you could discuss this – “Jews were seeking to Kill Him. Jesus and His teaching posed a serious threat to religious parties such as the Herodians and Pharisees, who shared a common goal – killing Jesus.” The Lutheran Study Bible
Write it on the heart verses – Psalm 84.1 and John 7.7
Small Catechism for the week: What is the benefit of this eating and drinking? These words, “Given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins,” show us that in the Sacrament forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation are given us through these words. For where there is forgiveness of sins, there is also life and salvation.
Small Catechism question for the day: Should someone who is weak in faith come to the Sacrament? Mark 9.24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, ‘I believe; help my unbelief!’
