Psalm 104.1-9

What vivid language! The Bible is definitely a visual word. We have ears to hear it and the eyes of faith to see. Do you think you could draw or paint the pictures in these verses?

Genesis 7.11-8.12

For younger children read at least Psalm 104.1. You may also talk about God saved Noah and his family through the waters of the flood and saves us through baptism.

For older children you could discuss this prayer – “Faithful Noah and his family experience the greatest horror this earth has known, but the ark carries them up and away from the destruction and total devastation of the great flood. Although dwarfed by Noah’s experience, all Christians experience turbulence in their lives that can lead them to the brink of despair. But through Noah, God has demonstrated that He will lift up and save His faithful people whom He has cleansed in Holy Baptism.” The Lutheran Study Bible

Mark 3.20-35

For younger children read at least Mark 3.35 and repeat it so that it might be written on the heart. You might also talk about the importance of doing God’s will and the comfort of knowing that in Baptism Jesus’ obedience is ours.

For older children you could discuss this – “Loyalty to God takes precedence over loyalty to blood relations. This is still hard to hear today, as the temptation to put relationships with family and friends above God can be overwhelming. But the Lord wants us to have both relationships, and have them as healthy as they can be. He stands first in our lives because He placed Himself last, to humbly bear our sins and make us children of God.” The Lutheran Study Bible

Write it on the heart verses – Psalm 104.1 and Mark 3.35

Small Catechism for the week: The Sixth Petition Lead us not into temptation. What does this mean? God surely tempts no one to sin, but we pray in this petition that God would guard and keep us, so that the devil, the world, and our flesh may not deceive us or lead us into false belief, despair, and other great and shameful sins; and though we are tempted by them, we pray that we may overcome and win the victory.

Small Catechism question for the day: What reasons do you have to be self-controlled? 1 Peter 5.8,9 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.
